If you’ve spent any time reading our blogs, looking at our emails, or attending our webinars, you know that we put a very high emphasis on blogging as a crucial part of a content marketing strategy. We say things like “long-tail keywords” and “blogging increases your organic search traffic.” Well, instead of just relying on what we say to be truth, we wanted to break it down a little more for you and talk about how blogging is able increase traffic to your website.
Blogging Answers Questions
At the end of the day, blogs need to answer questions for people, and they need to do it in a way that is enjoyable to read. With that in mind, though, you can’t just blog about the next thing that comes to your mind. There needs to be some heavy research involved.
Blog on Topics that People are Asking Google
So, what kind of research needs to be done? You need to be figuring out what questions people are asking in Google searches. There are some other search engines like Yahoo and Bing, but we all know that Google is king. Fortunately, Google provides tools like its Keyword Planner to see what people are searching on a month-to-month basis. This is a great way to prepare and know what to write about.
Use the Long-Tail Keywords to Show up on Google Searches
Once you find a topic that people are searching for, it’s important to further seek a long-tail keyword. For example, it would be unwise to blog on the keyword “lodging” when you could use a long-tail keyword like “best lodging in Charleston SC.” You will have a better chance of ranking on the first page of a Google search with a long-tail keyword as opposed to something more generic.
A Consistent Blogging Strategy Continues to Increase Traffic Over Time
Blogging very rarely is an overnight success. It’s unlike a paid campaign where you can throw $100 at something and see some immediate results. Blogging, however, is a long-term, sustainable approach to increasing traffic. Like clockwork, our customers start to see real success in terms of traffic between 3-6 months of the strategy being put in place. Once the blog gains traction, and you continue with correct strategy, you will continue to see increases month after month.
You Can Also Use Blog Content Elsewhere
The blog is undoubtedly a great way to gain organic traffic, but it also allows you to have fresh content for other outlets, as well. Particularly, using blogs as social media content or as part of an email campaign is a great a idea.
