If you’ve never had the pleasure of staying in an upscale bed and breakfast, add this experience to your bucket list. There’s no other lodging type like it.

Candleberry Inn offers the perks of an upscale hotel:

  • Crisp, luxurious linens with 600-thread count sheets and daily housekeeping
  • Upscale toiletries including Malin+Goetz natural cosmetics
  • Free parking, high-speed internet / WiFi, and printing for your boarding passes and travel essentials

Plus, the creature comforts of home or staying with close friends and family:

  • Gourmet, fresh breakfasts prepared to order daily
  • Afternoon treats baked from scratch
  • Beach towels, chairs, umbrellas, and picnic coolers

But, the biggest thing you’ll appreciate from staying at a place like Candleberry Inn is the warm, welcoming, and attentive hosts. Marco and Angelo leave no detail unnoticed. They anticipate the needs of their guests and proactively provide that extra throw blanket in the guest room, make recommendations for activities and dining, or offer complimentary beach day essentials to the guest headed out from breakfast.

During my visit, I stayed in the Garden Suite. This recently renovated guest room is located in the Carriage House adjacent to the Main House. The Garden Suite is spacious, meticulously cared for, and well-appointed with everything you could need for a worry-free getaway. It features:

  • stunning, wide-plank hardwood floors
  • private brick patio with lounge chairs
  • huge bathroom with a massive tub for two
  • comfortable seating area with sleeper loveseat for a third guest

My favorite part of the Garden Suite was the private patio and seating area. After breakfast each morning, my husband and I enjoyed relaxing on the patio with a nice cup of coffee. In the evenings, we’d sit on the patio after wandering through the adjacent lawn and gardens on the property.

Each morning starts with a two-course breakfast. Angelo leads the charge in the kitchen, crafting dishes that are as beautifully prepared as they are delicious. Meanwhile, Marco runs the front of the house, taking breakfast orders and tending to guests’ needs. Together, they make a wonderful team that serves up a breakfast experience unlike any other.

Each breakfast starts with a refreshing fruit course. During our stay, we enjoyed grilled pineapple with brown sugar, cinnamon, and strawberry sauce, as well as a citrus salad with half a dozen different fruits. The second course varies daily, alternating between sweet and savory dishes.

On our first morning, we had our choice or plain or blueberry pancakes served with a side of bacon. Angelo puts a spin on the traditional pancake recipe by adding shredded apples to the batter to make them a bit heartier. The light and fluffy pancakes were so good, we didn’t need butter or syrup! The next day, we had breakfast burritos filled with eggs, sausage, avocado, and more. After trying them ourselves, we can see why they are a staff and guest favorite!

Brewster, MA, is an excellent place to get away from the world and simply relax for a few days. Here on the bay-side of the Cape, the beaches are calm and the waters still. The Cape Cod Rail Trail and nearby Nickerson State Park offer excellent wooded trails for hiking, biking, and running. During our visit, we explored the rail trail before finding a small pond for swimming and relaxing. Brewster also offers a historic general store, ice cream shop, and plentiful options for gourmet dining.

Visiting the Candleberry Inn afforded me the opportunity to explore Brewster, as well as towns along the Cape like Orleans, Chatham, and Provincetown. If you’ve never been to this unique part of the country, it was well worth the trip. Between the fresh seafood, beautiful landscapes, rich history, and leisurely way of life, it’s easy to see why the region is such a popular vacation destination.

That’s exactly why you need to visit and experience it for yourself.
